A New Jazz-Inspired Album By Solange Is Dropping This Fall

According to a new profile of Solange by T: The New York Times Style Magazine, a follow-up to the artist’s 2016 album A Seat at the Table is upon us. It’s set as an imminent release, so fans can expect the album to arrive as a surprise, coming “into the world fully formed at some mysterious and unexpected moment,” said Solange.

Jazz is at the core of this LP, Solange revealed to the Times.  “But with electronic and hip-hop drum and bass because I want it to bang and make your trunk rattle,” she said. The album, which is still unnamed, was recorded in New Orleans, her hometown in Jamaica, California, and the state’s Topanga Canyon.

The album is described by the artist as more “warm, sensual, and fluid” than A Seat at the Table, and less focused on the self as the main subject. “I realize how much wider, figuratively and literally, my work could be if I took myself away as subject,” she told the Times. Despite her previous album receiving a Grammy nomination and earning her first Grammy for the hit single “Cranes in the Sky,” Solange still has the jitters about releasing her new body of work into the world. “I have this fear living in my body about releasing work,” she said. “I don’t know any artist that doesn’t feel that before they hit the ‘send’ button.” Solange will reportedly be working on and editing the album up until its release.
