A Spinoff of ‘All American’ and New Supernatural Ava DuVernay Series ‘Naomi’ Are Coming To The CW
All American: Homecoming, a spinoff of the hit sports drama television series All American, has been picked up by The CW. Written and executive produced by Nkechi Okoro Carroll, the series will follow the HBCU college experience of a young tennis player from Beverly Hills and an elite baseball player from Chicago as they enter the world of college sports.
“The world of the HBCUs has not been seen on American television this way,” said Warner Bros. Chairman Channing Dungey in an interview with Deadline. “And I also appreciate now, with Nkechi Carroll taking us into college, it’s giving us the opportunity to be a little older, a little racier, a little more daring.”
Another series that will premiere on The CW is Naomi, which is written and executive produced by Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship. It’s an adaptation of DC Comics’ Naomi, and Kaci Walfall will play the teen superhero.
Naomi follows a young girl’s journey from her modest northwestern hometown to the great heights of the Multiverse. But when a supernatural event deeply rattles her hometown, Naomi goes on a mission to unearth its origins, and what she finds will defy everything we thought we knew about our heroes.
“The origin story of a new hero. NAOMI is now officially a series at @TheCW! Many hands/hearts went into bringing this saga to the screen,” wrote DuVernay in a tweet announcing the exciting news.
