‘Felix Ever After’ To Be Adapted Into A Television Series Through Amazon Studios
The sensational young adult novel Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender will receive its own television series through Amazon Studios and Field Trip Productions.
Published in May of this year by HarperCollins, Felix Ever After tells the story of Felix Love, a transgender teen dealing with identity, self-discovery, and the complexities of falling in love. Below, read the book’s official synopsis:
“Felix Love has never been in love—and, yes, he’s painfully aware of the irony. He desperately wants to know what it’s like and why it seems so easy for everyone but him to find someone. What’s worse is that, even though he is proud of his identity, Felix also secretly fears that he’s one marginalization too many—Black, queer, and transgender—to ever get his own happily-ever-after.
When an anonymous student begins sending him transphobic messages—after publicly posting Felix’s deadname alongside images of him before he transitioned—Felix comes up with a plan for revenge. What he didn’t count on: his catfish scenario landing him in a quasi–love triangle….
But as he navigates his complicated feelings, Felix begins a journey of questioning and self-discovery that helps redefine his most important relationship: how he feels about himself.
Felix Ever After is an honest and layered story about identity, falling in love, and recognizing the love you deserve.”
Although we’ve certainly progressed as a society, transgender main characters still aren’t particularly common in books and film/tv. Thus, this new series is a substantial step forward. In an interview with Philly Mag, Callender discussed how this is shifting. “The year 2020 is going to be huge for trans books,” they said. “There’s mine and, like, five others that are also coming out. There’s been a lot more awareness for transgender people in the media, so a lot more people are realizing they’re trans. And now more people are telling their stories.”
Callender, whose pronouns are they/them and sometimes he/him, is the author of the recent 2020 novel King and the Dragonflies, Hurricane Child, This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story, and Queen of the Conquered.
