Jhené Aiko’s Short Film ‘Trip’ Is An Emotional Exploration Of Pain And Healing [WATCH]

R&B artist Jhené Aiko has opened up her heart in the purest form with Trip, her most personal project to date. The 23-minute autobiographical short is a prelude to her latest album of the same name, which made a surprise release shortly after the film. Prior to listening, we highly recommend watching the short, as it features raw poetry, songs from the album, and stunning visuals that are sure to give you an exceptional experience.
Trip follows Penny (Jhené Aiko), a poet struggling to find the right words and in search for inner peace after the devastating loss of her brother. When she meets a free-spirited stranger who persuades Penny to join him on spontaneous adventure with no destination, she embarks on a journey that is an honest and sometimes messy exploration of self, mourning, and, ultimately, healing – a journey we can all relate to.
The project was written by Aiko and co-directed by Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip). It pays homage to Aiko’s late brother, Miyagi, who lost his battle to cancer in 2012. Watch Trip below:
