Michelle Obama To Discuss Her Memoir On YouTube’s Original Special “BookTube”
Premiering this month, the former First Lady is set to headline an original YouTube special called “BookTube.” During the program, Michelle Obama will discuss her memoir Becoming with a panel of education-based YouTubers including Franchesca Ramsey, Ariel Bissett, and Jouelzy. The discussion will be moderated by The Fault in our Stars author John Green.
“BookTube” will contain seven 10-minute chapters, each filled with thoughtful questions for Michelle Obama. Last week, she announced the exciting news on Twitter and encouraged users to send her questions about her memoir. The YouTube creators also expressed their enthusiasm over the opportunity. Franchesca Ramsey, who is also the executive producer and host of the MTV series Decoded and the author of Well, That Escalated Quickly: Memoirs and Mistakes of an Accidental Activist, told Forbes, “As a black woman, as an activist, and as an author, Michelle Obama is such an inspiration to me. So when YouTube reached out, I absolutely leapt at the chance to participate.”
“Aside from the amazing opportunity to speak with Michelle Obama, it’s great to encourage a broader audience to read more and particularly to be a voice that sits outside of the young adult scene that is most prevalent in the BookTube scene. I hope to encourage folks to read more modern Black women authors and critical theory,” said Joulzey.
While no official date has been announced for the special, “BookTube” will be available to stream free of charge in honor of Women’s History Month.
Becoming was released in November of last year, and became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller after only one week of sales. Today, the book continues to hold first place on Amazon’s Charts. Purchase a copy of Obama’s memoir, which has been described as “intimate, powerful, and inspiring,” through Amazon or your local bookstore.
