Michelle Obama To Read Classic Children’s Books In Live-Streaming PBS Kids Series
“Mondays With Michelle Obama” is a new live-streaming series where the former First Lady will read a handful of her favorite children’s picture books for the kids at home.
Beginning today at noon ET and ending on the Monday of May 11th, Obama’s readings will be live-streamed on multiple platforms: PBS Kids’ Facebook page, YouTube, and on Penguin Random House’s Facebook page. The videos will remain on-demand for later viewing.
“As a little kid, I loved to read aloud,” said Michelle Obama in a statement. “And when I became a parent, I found such joy in sharing the magic of storytelling with my own children — and then later, as First Lady, with kids everywhere.”
Here is the official live-stream reading schedule: Obama will read “The Gruffalo” (April 20), “There’s a Dragon in Your Book” (April 27), “Miss Maple’s Seeds” (May 4), and “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” (May 11).
Obama has joined forces with Penguin Young Readers, Random House Children’s Books, and PBS Kids for this project. Penguin Random House will also have a collection of resources and activities for each book that Obama reads, which can be found at readtogetherbetogether.com.
“At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories (and to give parents and caretakers a much-needed break),” said Obama.
