NAACP Image Awards 2018: The Complete List of Winners
Ayanna DeVaughn – Editorial
This year marked the NAACP’s 49th annual Image Awards ceremony, which honors people of color making a difference in multiple arenas, including entertainment, literature, social justice, and more.
The highest honor was given to A Wrinkle in Time director Ava DuVernay, who was awarded with Entertainer of the Year, an honor previously held by Taraji P. Henson, Dwayne Johnson, and more. “This is our time,” DuVernay stated during her acceptance speech. “We can say we were here when all this gorgeous art was happening, and that we supported it—that we lifted each other up, that we did as Dr. King said we would do: Live the dream. We are the dream!”
Other winners of the ceremony were Jordan Peele’s hit social thriller Get Out, and Kenya Barris’ relatable comedy black-ish, which received a total of five awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series.
