Nova Bordelon Creates Deep Family Tension In ‘Queen Sugar’ Season 4 Trailer

In the official trailer for Queen Sugar’s fourth season, Nova Bordelon (Rutina Wesley) is the source of heavy family tension as a result of her rather transparent book, Blessings and Blood, being published.

There are hints within the trailer that Nova’s memoir will receive critical acclaim and public praise, but it all comes at the cost of shattering these special familial connections, particularly with Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) and Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner). The book brings buried family secrets to the surface, without the approval of the siblings that she exposes. Will Nova create irrevocable damage within the Bordelon family, or will she somehow be able to repair her relationships with her siblings?

In other news, Darla (Bianca Lawson) appears to have been given a second chance for love, with glimpses of her and a mysterious man, who we cannot wait to become acquainted with. Yet, he’s certainly got big shoes to fill–as Ralph Angel is, essentially, the archetype of a dream man.

According to OWN’s description of the new season, we’ll be introduced to a few new characters, but the identity of Darla’s new love interest has yet to be revealed. Erica Tazel will play Deesha Brown-Sonnier, who is an attorney and a “socially conscious neighbor.” In her TV debut, Kendall Clark will portray Joie, the daughter of Deesha. She’s described as a “bright and self-confident tomboy,” who becomes friends with Blue.

The fourth season will continue the series’ all-female directing team, which was a “creative initiative” put in place by the show’s creator, Ava DuVernay. Directors will include Cheryl Dunye, Heidi Saman, Bola Ogun, Tchaiko Omawale, Numa Perrier, and Carmen Marrón.
