Season 5 of ‘Queen Sugar’ Will Address The Pandemic And Black Lives Matter
The fifth season of Queen Sugar is now back in production, reports Shadow and Act.
According to the network, necessary changes have been made to coincide with current times. “DuVernay reconceived the character arcs and storylines, writing alongside returning showrunner Anthony Sparks and co-executive producer Norman Vance to tackle head-on the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter protest movement that swept the country, and the lead-up to elections to showcase the specific impact and ramifications these issues have on communities and people of color. Through it all, viewers will see the joy around the pain, and humanity’s ability to persevere and find light in the darkest of times.”
Queen Sugar will continue to have an all-female directorial lineup, including Lauren Wolkstein, Lisa France, and Cierra Glaude. So far, 32 women have made their television directorial debut on the show, and this phenomenal number is expected to increase. The captivating drama series stars Rutina Wesley, Kofi Siriboe, Bianca Lawson, Dawn-Lyen Gardner, Nicholas Ashe, and Ethan Hutchinson. Stream the first four seasons on Hulu. Season five of Queen Sugar is scheduled to air in 2021 on OWN.
