These Vibrant Posters Celebrate Women Role Models And Innovators In STEM
Medium’s Nevertheless podcast, which is now approaching the end of its second season, celebrates various women who are revolutionizing teaching and learning through technology. As part of their podcast episode discussing essential role models in STEM, Nevertheless commissioned female illustrators from across the globe to design posters of eight women innovators in STEM, and the final results are filled with artistic charm and vibrancy. Mae C. Jemison – Astronaut and Doctor
Mae C. Jemison is an American engineer, physician, and NASA astronaut. She is best-known for becoming the first African American woman to travel in space when she went into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour on September 12, 1992. Jemison is also an actress and dancer. Currently, she is the principal of the 100 Year Starship organization.

Dr. Hayat Sindi – Scientist and Innovator
Dr. Hayat Sindi is a Saudi Arabian medical scientist and one of the world’s leading biotechnologists. She has made major contributions to point-of-care medical testing and biotechnology. In 2001, she became the first Arab woman to study biotechnology at Cambridge University, and the first woman from any of the Arab States of the Persian Gulf to complete a doctoral degree in biotechnology. Dr. Sindi is the Founder and President of the i2 Institute and a co-founder of Diagnostics For All.

Gladys West – Mathematician
Gladys West is an American mathematician who contributed to the mathematical modeling of the shape of the Earth. Her work was instrumental in developing the mathematics behind GPS. As one of the “hidden figures” who was lesser known for her role in inventing GPS, her contributions were only discovered when a member of her AKA sorority read a short biography that West had submitted as part of an alumni function. West was finally honored in 2018 when she was inducted into the United States Air Force Hall of Fame in 2018.

Juliana Rotich – Technologist and Entrepreneur
Juliana Rotich is an information technology professional, entrepreneur, and keynote speaker. Based in Kenya, she is the co-founder of BRCK Inc, a hardware and services technology company. The company was created “to realize a vision for enabling communication in low infrastructure environments by developing useful, innovative technologies.” She is also the co-founder of Juliana the non-profit tech company Ushahidi Inc., which centers on “developing free and open source software for changing how information flows in the world.”
