Viola Davis Will Star As Michelle Obama In Drama Series ‘First Ladies’
In one of the most spot on casting matches in recent history, Viola Davis is set to portray Michelle Obama in Showtime’s upcoming anthology drama series First Ladies. Written by Aaron Cooley, the project will also be executive produced through JuVee Productions, Davis and her husband Julius Tennon’s company. The two will team up with Lionsgate for the series, which currently is being fast tracked.
According to Deadline, First Ladies will be set in the East Wing of the White House, where various historic private matters and life-changing decisions have occurred. The series will follow both the personal and political lives of our most prominent First Ladies throughout history, with the first season centering on Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Michelle Obama.
Davis and Tennon’s JuVee Productions, which has a first-look deal with Amazon, is growing at a rapid rate. One of their projects, Fast Color, is currently being developed into a television series.
Before First Ladies hits the small screen, be sure to catch Viola Davis on the final season of How to Get Away With Murder, which premieres this fall on ABC.
