‘We The People’: Teaching The Youth About Government In A Colorful And Innovative Way

Created by Chris Nee (Doc McStuffins), We the People is Netflix’s forthcoming animated series that teaches the new generation a wide range of essential U.S. civics lessons in an imaginative way. 

The series aims to educate in a way that is both memorable and inspiring––filling children’s minds with color, music, and knowledge all at once. As opposed to watching dated, overused material on basic civics lessons that are often shown in American school systems, here’s a more fun way to retain information! There’s a rap about taxes, empowering songs on freedom of speech, and catchy lyrics that educate while playing on repeat in the soundtrack of your mind. After all, isn’t that the most optimal way to learn?

Merging popular musical artists with various animation styles, the series features 10 episodes that are divided into three-minute installments. Each portion will reflect on what government and citizenship mean in today’s diverse and ever-changing world.

Branded as a “civics remix,” original songs for We the People are performed by Janelle Monáe, H.E.R., Lin-Manuel Miranda, Brittany Howard, Daveed Diggs, Adam Lambert, Brandi Carlie, Cordae, Bebe Rexha, KYLE, Andra Day, and poet Amanda Gorman. 

President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are serving as executive producers, and the series is part of their Higher Ground production company. black-ish creator Kenya Barris is also an executive producer through his company Khalabo Ink Society.
